Maundy Thursday Communion Worship

March 29, 2018, 7:30 p.m.

Each year during Holy Week (the week before Easter), we offer a worship service on Holy Thursday to remember Jesus with his disciples at the Last Supper. During this time, Jesus held up bread and said, “This is my body, broken for you.” He held up a cup and said, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” During the course of the meal, Jesus also said, “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” This commandment gives us the name for the worship—Maundy. Maundy is from the Latin mandatum which means commandment. Others say it also may be connected to the old English word maund which means “to beg.” At one point in medieval history bags of coins were given to the poor on Holy Thursday. Some think these were called maundy bags Let us share in Holy Communion together as we remember this most important event in the life of Jesus and the church. The title of the message is “Work and Love.”

Youth Easter Sunrise Service

April 1, 7:30 a.m.

Our youth lead worship at the sunrise service. This creative and uplifting sacred time is a great way to enter into the joy of Easter Day. The youth will be choosing a drama and they organize, lead, and rehearse for every aspect of the worship. A free Easter breakfast follows in the Social Room. This is one of the highlights of our worship year.

See you there!
