Opportunities in Worship

Hosts welcome people into the sanctuary for worship, or show them to a Sunday school class at 9:15–9:30 and 10:45–11:00 Sundays, several times a year.
Ushers distribute bulletins, collect offering, assist people whenever needed, during the 11:00 worship hour on Sundays.
Readers lead the responsive readings and read scripture passages in the 11:00 a.m. worship service.
Helps the pastor serve the elements (bread and juice) to the congregation.
Lay Speaker / Lay Servant
A program of training and certification, available through the Miami Valley District, giving training in spoken communication, church and community leadership, and care-giving ministries.
Light altar candles at the beginning of worship and extinguish them at the end of the 11:00 service.
Liturgical Arts Team
A team who tends to the preparation of the visual aspect of the sanctuary during worship, i.e., banners, candles, flowers, paraments.
Choir Member (vocal)
Chancel choir (adults), Children's Choir (ages 4-5th grade)
Bell Choir Member
Youth through adults who can read music may play hand bells.
Praise Team Volunteer
The Contemporary Worship at 9:30 Sundays is led by a Praise Team of singers and instrumentalists. New members are always welcome.
If you play an instrument, are you interested in forming an ensemble with other musicians?

Special music is welcome in our service, adding variety to the regular music provided by the choir.
Assist with the care of worship attenders' children on Sunday mornings on a rotating basis.
Sound System Operator
Substitute for sound system operator as needed when our regular sound operator cannot be present.
Multimedia System Operator
Substitute for multimedia operator as needed when our regular multimedia operator cannot be present.
Christian Drama Group
Help organize and participate in a drama group. You don't have to be an experienced theatrical performer to help present a short, message-bearing skit.
Exhibit/Share Artistic Talents
Your God-given skills/talents can find expression in visual arts at Church of the Cross.
