FAQ
Q. Where is Church of the Cross?
A. Church of the Cross is in Kettering, Ohio, just south of the intersection of Dorothy Lane and Wilmington Pike.
Q. Where do I go when I get there?
A. There are two sets of double glass doors at the back of the church. This is the main entrance to the sanctuary. There are a couple of steps just inside the door, so if you have difficulty with stairs, come in through the handicap ramp just to the right of the doors.
Q. When IS the service?
A. Our service is held on Sunday at 10:30 am. Sunday school classes are held at 9:00 am. Children’s classes are during both, the 9:00 am hour and the 10:30 worship service. Infant care is available during both hours.
Q. What Is the service like?
A. The service is a marriage of contemporary and traditional worship styles. Service begins with music led by a praise band and lyrics are projected on a screen. The praise band is composed of vocalists, pianist, drummer, and guitarists. Children two years and up enjoy a children’s sermon and then are dismissed to their Sunday school classes or back to sit with their parents. The worship service also features more traditional rituals, such as hymns from our adult Chancel Choir, Pastor Scott’s sermon and offerings.
Q. What should I wear?
A. Business casual probably describes most of the clothing worn, but jeans are perfectly okay. Dress however you are most comfortable. The important thing is to come.
Q. Will I be singled out as a guest?
A. You will be welcomed and encouraged to complete our Guest Connection Card which will give us information that will help us better serve your needs. You will not be asked to stand or say anything. We trust you will be warmly greeted by many of our regular worshipers. Also, if you come to the Visitor Center in the lobby, we have a small gift for you on your first and second visits.
Q. Will I be expected to give money?
A. The church receives support from it’s regular attenders and members in many ways—through time, talents, gifts and service. However, there is no expectation that first time visitors should contribute.
Q. Is there a nursery?
A. Infants up to two years are cared for in a loving environment in our nursery. Children two years and up are welcome in age-appropriate Sunday school classes where they will learn about God’s love for them through crafts and activities. Children are also welcome in our worship services, however, it is sometimes difficult for little ones to sit for that long. One of the hosts on duty will be happy to help you find an appropriate class for your child. The hosts will be wearing red name badges.
