Freedom in Christ

Scripture: Mark 5:21-43

Speaker: Rev. Gus Christo-Baker

Not only do we celebrate our freedom as citizens of the United States, but as Christians, we celebrate a freedom that is only found in Jesus Christ. The woman in our scripture passage knew that she only needed to touch Jesus' garment to be healed of her infirmity. How do YOU demonstrate your faith in Jesus Christ in your day-to-day life?

The Hidden Kingdom

Scripture: Mark 4:26-32

Speaker: Rev. Dr. John Whitaker

God works in mysterious ways. God is often working in hidden ways to bring about what God wants. We are sometimes not even aware of what God is doing behind the obvious. The Kingdom of God can begin like a small seed but grow into an enormous plant. Growth happens beneath the surface. We should not dismiss what seems unimpressive. God has a way of bringing great results from the smallest of seeds.

Work and Suffering

Scripture: Mark 8:31-38

Speaker: Rev. Dr. John Whitaker

Work that focuses primarily on success and profit will soon erode the human spirit. Jesus speaks about his purpose and suffering. The work of the Christian involves suffering. We must not avoid legitimate suffering. Christians are called to follow Jesus. Christians must embrace self-denial and reject values contrary to the will of God. Work that glorifies God is not done to please the powerful. We must not be embarrassed by the Jesus who absorbs suffering rather than conquering enemies. We work for eternal values not temporary ones.
