Unworthy and Worthy
John the Baptist, the greatest prophet and holy man, who precedes Christ, says he does not feel worthy to untie the sandals of Jesus. Next to Jesus, he feels great shame, a deep unworthiness that says he is not good enough for even the humanity of Jesus, let alone his divinity. But God is pleased with the life of Jesus at his baptism. Jesus is declared to be worthy. Jesus brings his worthiness to bear upon our unworthiness. Shame doe not have a chance.
