Matthew

It's a Family Affair

Scripture: Matthew 2:1-12

Speaker: Rev. Gus Christo-Baker

This passage is a family situation we can still relate to today. A child, separated from his parents, sends the parents into a tailspin of worry. But Mary’s final response to the situation is to “treasure all this in her heart.” What do our children need from us to “grow in wisdom and stature”?

Standards of the Kingdom

Scripture: Matthew 25:31-40

Speaker: Rev. Dr. John Whitaker

Jesus is the King of the Kingdom. Jesus has some standards for his followers. God is generous with us. We are to be generous toward others. Help those in need who lack the basics of life--food, water, clothing, and shelter. Welcome the marginalized. Welcome the stranger and the prisoner--those marginalized by others' choices and their own.

Pass It On

The disciples want to send the crowd away but Jesus orders them to feed the crowd. They protest. In the face of human need, we often protest the need is beyond our resources. Jesus blesses the meal and the disciples pass it on to the crowd. This raises and important question, "In what ways have we been given blessed nourishment and failed to pass it along to people in need?"
